AkzoNobel: Empowering Industrial E-learning in a Multinational Company

AkzoNobel, a Global Fortune 500 paints and coatings company with 55,000 employees operating in 80+ countries, needed a scalable way for subject matter experts and L&D staff to create rapid e‑learning despite limited budgets and inconsistent authoring tools. The challenge was to enable global knowledge sharing and retain organizational expertise by making course creation easy, on‑brand, and widely adopted.

AkzoNobel selected Articulate Studio ’09 Pro, developed corporate rapid e‑learning templates, and rolled out mandatory training and community resources, issuing licenses to employees who agreed to author courses. The initiative was promoted internally via demos, webinars and screencasts; results exceeded expectations—users produced more than 375 courses in six months (vs. a 50–70 course estimate), delivering consistent, high‑quality modules that improved knowledge retention and customer service.
