Academic E-Learning Helps Anatomy & Biology Students Make the Grade

Johnson County Community College (JCCC) Senior Educational Technology Analyst Tracy Newman tackled a recurring problem in the college’s anatomy course: students struggled on practical exams because they had limited access to anatomical models outside class and lab hours. Instructors needed engaging, easy-to-use study aids that could be developed quickly and made available online during the semester.

Tracy used Articulate Engage, Quizmaker, and Presenter to build 20 interactive modules—labeled graphics with audio pronunciations and quizzes—then published them to the college LMS. The rapid-development approach let her produce modules in days (a separate biology equipment project took a week), led to measurable student improvement (one student moved from a D to A/B grades on practicals), and generated strong instructor demand for more e-learning resources.
