Uncovering the Cost of Substance Abuse Treatment Centers

Luxury Treatment Center worked with Artemis Health to better understand the cost and quality of substance abuse treatment used by its members. The customer wanted to know whether employees and dependents were receiving high-quality care at affordable facilities, especially given rising treatment costs and the disruption substance abuse can cause.

Using the Artemis Platform and its benefits-data analytics, Artemis Health built a cohort of 463 members with substance abuse diagnoses from medical and pharmacy claims. The analysis found treatment costs had increased 50.9% year over year, opioid dependence was the most common diagnosis, and seven members were treated at luxury oceanfront facilities that accounted for $144,867 in benefit spend. Armed with these insights, Luxury Treatment Center began re-evaluating its treatment network and member education efforts.
