Providence Medical Center, a 400‑bed acute care hospital in Kansas City and part of Prime Healthcare, was using eClinicalWorks’ cloud-hosted EMR and patient portal but began experiencing performance degradation traced to a faulty carrier circuit. Corporate policies prevented moving to a different eCW data center, so IT opted to bring the eCW implementation in‑house to improve performance and align with an existing virtualization strategy.

The hospital deployed Array Networks’ vAPV virtual application delivery controller in its VMware private cloud alongside eCW virtual appliances, with installation support from reseller TIG. The vAPV delivered 24/7 availability, extremely low latency, 2048‑bit SSL security for HIPAA compliance, and easy scalability—resulting in a stable, high-performance EMR experience that required minimal ongoing management and only a single, quickly resolved support incident.
