How Barrick Gold Developed Robust and Justifiable Maintenance Strategies

Barrick Gold engaged ARMS Reliability to support the Pueblo Viejo Mine development in the Dominican Republic as the project neared completion. With commissioning underway and a new mine life expected to exceed 25 years, Barrick needed a complete asset strategy in place before operations began, including preventive maintenance instructions, scientifically justified PM frequencies, and broad participation from maintenance and operations teams. ARMS Reliability provided maintenance strategy development using reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and FMEA-based analysis.

ARMS Reliability worked with Barrick, OEMs, and subject matter experts to build approximately 500 maintenance plans for 2,770 assets in 8 months, covering nearly 50% of the facility. The solution also produced work instructions, budget and resource forecasts, spares predictions, and FMEA/FMECA reports for upload into Oracle EAM. As a result, Barrick Gold Pueblo Viejo gained robust, justifiable maintenance strategies aligned to plant performance, improved knowledge transfer for the new site, and a standard set of asset strategies that can be reused across other Barrick facilities.
