Energy Think Tank Showcases Armis to Utility Companies as a Key Component of a More Secure Grid

Energy Research Institute, a U.S.-based not-for-profit energy think tank, needed better visibility into device activity across its IT, OT, and IoT environments to spot insider threats, risky cross-network interactions, and help utilities strengthen defenses against cyberattacks. The organization turned to Armis to improve monitoring and asset intelligence across its cybersecurity lab and training environments.

With Armis, Energy Research Institute gained a “known good” baseline for anomaly detection, simplified asset inventory, and alerting on suspicious behavior such as unusual RDP use, large file transfers, questionable website access from OT devices, and potentially risky firmware activity. The Armis platform was also integrated with Splunk and lab infrastructure to support single-pane-of-glass visibility and security reporting, and it helped reduce inventory export time from days to about one hour.
