Case Study: University of Salford achieves funder-compliant open access to research data with Arkivum

A Arkivum Case Study

Preview of the University of Salford Case Study

University of Salford has deployed an integrated discovery and storage solution based on Arkivum/100 and Figshare

The University of Salford needed a more reliable and scalable way to manage research data as many researchers were using memory sticks, external hard drives, Dropbox, and Google Drive. With the university deriving about 30% of its research funding from the EPSRC, it needed to meet funder-mandated requirements for long-term open access to research data. Arkivum, working with Figshare, provided a centrally supported research data management service.

Arkivum implemented an integrated Figshare front-end with Arkivum archive storage, giving researchers an easy-to-use workflow for storing, managing, sharing, and preserving data. The solution stores at least three copies of each digital file across multiple data centres for resilience and integrity, while also supporting faster access through a local gateway appliance. As a result, the University of Salford now has a compliant, scalable platform for EPSRC-funded research data and is planning a campus-wide rollout.
