Severn Pathology - Customer Case Study

Severn Pathology, through Bristol Genetics Laboratory at North Bristol NHS Trust, needed a way to manage rapidly growing gene-sequencing and digital imaging data from more than 30,000 genetic investigations a year. The challenge was to store genomics data long term in a secure, compliant way while reducing backup load, limiting pressure on NHS IT, and preserving data that could gain future clinical value. Arkivum provided the TRUST long-term archive solution to meet these needs.

Arkivum implemented a cloud-based TRUST archive with an appliance on site, storing multiple copies of each file in geographically separate UK data centres plus an offline escrow copy. The solution achieved NHS IG Toolkit compliance, N3 network delivery, and a 100% data integrity guarantee, while initially providing 20TB of archive storage. As a result, Severn Pathology gained scalable long-term storage, automated ingestion, reduced manual effort, and lower backup and infrastructure costs, with the ability to expand capacity without further capital outlay.
