Oxford Molecular Diagnostics Centre - Customer Case Study

Oxford Molecular Diagnostics Centre, part of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, needed a scalable, cost-effective long-term storage solution for sensitive genomic data generated through its personalised medicine and clinical sequencing programs. Working with Arkivum, the team sought a system that could securely store patient-identifiable data for 30 years while keeping it instantly accessible for ongoing analysis and research.

Arkivum implemented TRUST storage based around a 60TB archive solution and a locally located 48TB gateway appliance for fast access to cached data. The solution let Oxford Molecular Diagnostics Centre store FASTQ, BAM and VCF files, increased data volume capacity by 50% beyond the original plan, reduced pressure on local IT storage and backup windows, and provided an N3-connected, NHS-aligned platform that made procurement straightforward.
