A Arkivum Case Study
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) needed a scalable, financially sustainable way to digitally preserve and manage 6.2 PB of audiovisual artworks over 10 years, while maintaining very high standards for data integrity, security, metadata quality, and future file-format preservation. To meet this challenge, MoMA worked with Arkivum, using an integrated Archivematica / Arkivum solution alongside its in-house Binder indexing system.
Arkivum deployed an on-site preservation setup at MoMA with an appliance, local disk cache, and IBM LTO tape library, with multiple copies of each file stored across MoMA data centers and offline for disaster recovery. The result was a highly sustainable archive that is at least 10 times more cost-effective than disk- or cloud-based storage, supports 100% data integrity, and helps MoMA meet top digital preservation standards while preparing for 6.2 PB of AV content growth.
