A Arkivum Case Study
Loughborough University needed a way to store and make available a wide range of research data in line with new open data mandates from funders such as Research Councils UK and EPSRC. Its existing repository could not easily handle the size and variety of data formats involved, so the university turned to Arkivum and Figshare to create a long-term archiving and discovery solution, using Arkivum/100 for secure preservation.
Arkivum worked with Figshare to deliver an integrated platform that lets researchers upload data through a simple web interface, add metadata, and then archive the files for long-term preservation and discovery. The solution was deployed in seven months, on time and within budget, with 50TB of archive storage and a 48TB on-site appliance; it now supports around 150 research groups, improves access to research data, and even provides economical long-term storage for lecture recordings.
