Linnean Society of London - Customer Case Study

The Linnean Society of London, the world’s oldest active biological society, wanted a reliable way to preserve and provide long-term access to the high-resolution digital copies of its priceless specimens, manuscripts, letters, books, and artwork. To meet this challenge, it sought an experienced archiving partner, cost-effective shared infrastructure, and a best-of-breed solution, ultimately working with Arkivum through ULCC’s managed archive service.

Arkivum, via ULCC’s existing Arkivum implementation, provided a centralized digital archiving service for the Society’s master image files, which were copied to a Janet-connected filesystem and replicated to Arkivum data centres. The result was the archiving of 14TB of digitised data, nearly 40% lower archive storage costs, improved terms of service, and a 100% data integrity guarantee, giving the Linnean Society a secure long-term preservation solution.
