A Arkivum Case Study
Aston University, a leading UK university, needed a cost-effective, long-term solution to archive and provide open access to its rapidly growing volumes of research data to comply with new funder mandates. The existing systems based on traditional disk storage were insufficient for their needs, which included central management and customizable archiving policies for over 40 research groups. They partnered with Arkivum to implement its service.
The solution from Arkivum used a centrally managed archive policy framework to automate data ingestion, meeting specific research group and funder requirements. This allowed researchers to simply drop files into a network staging area, with the rest of the archiving process handled automatically. The implementation enabled Aston University IT to run the system largely unattended, simplified onboarding new departments, and allowed them to extend the indemnity-insured Arkivum service to other areas of the campus like Procurement and Finance.
