Colbún S.A., a Chilean electricity generation company, faced the challenge of maximizing the efficiency of its power generation and optimizing the distribution of water resources across its hydroelectric plants. To address this, they partnered with vendor Arkano, which utilized Azure Machine Learning and other Azure data services to develop a predictive analytics solution.

Arkano implemented a machine learning model that analyzed data from Colbún's plant operations to identify the most efficient turbines and predict ideal water flow rates. The solution delivered by Arkano is expected to increase energy generation by 1% to 2%, enables predictive maintenance plans, and has already identified specific turbine behaviors to further optimize performance.
