University of Strasbourg selects Arista Networks for Osiris MAN evolution to deliver resilient and scalable 100G connectivity

The University of Strasbourg, which operates the Osiris metropolitan area network connecting 125 buildings across 17 higher-education partners, faced growing performance and scalability issues with its Osiris 3 deployment—limited by a 10 Gbps core, mostly 1 Gbps uplinks and Spanning Tree–based constraints—resulting in long convergence times, suboptimal path utilization, equipment obsolescence and operational complexity as research and campus traffic increased.

The university migrated to Osiris 4 using Arista’s EVPN/VXLAN fabric with Arista 7000-series leaf, spine and super‑spine switches (100G core with 10G building connectivity), leveraging its existing automation stack. The rollout was seamless and incident‑free, delivering simplified zero‑touch provisioning and management, active‑active redundancy, improved traffic distribution and backbone utilization, and future‑proof capacity for the coming years.
