A Arista Networks Case Study
Simwood, a UK wholesale telecoms provider serving ~900 mostly ISP and carrier customers with latency-sensitive voice and video traffic, needed to move off a traditional Brocade switch/router estate to a more flexible, software-defined architecture. The goals were to increase capacity, simplify operations, and improve real-time security against threats like DDoS and VoIP fraud while enabling cloud-style, developer-driven services.
Simwood replaced its legacy gear with Arista 7050SX switches running EOS and DirectFlow, using Selective Route Download, 10G-dense chassis, routing-on-host and containerisation. The deployment delivered much higher capacity and lower cost per port, a simplified L3-only topology, a DevOps operating model, and dynamic, hardware-assisted flow controls that improve DDoS/VoIP protection and enable self-defending, containerised services.
