A Arista Networks Case Study
RACSA, Costa Rica’s leading public ISP, built a subscription cloud service offering virtual servers and desktops to residential and corporate customers. The project had to deliver high data‑center performance to compensate for low‑end client PCs while meeting strict government energy mandates and fitting into compact, containerized facilities in a tropical climate — requiring a small, high‑density, energy‑efficient networking solution and 10Gb connectivity.
Arista’s wire‑speed, non‑blocking 1RU switches (7100 series/7140T top‑of‑rack and 7148SX spine with MLAG) and EOS provided 1Gb/10Gb flexibility, high density, and low power use for the containerized data center, integrated with F5 load balancers, Check Point firewalls and Juniper routing. RACSA launched the cloud in April 2009; the service has been uninterrupted since launch, achieved strong customer adoption, maintains a PUE below 1.6, and is being scaled with plans for an additional data center.
