Paddy Power Betfair selects Arista Networks as the critical network layer in its transition to an Infrastructure-as-a-Service and DevOps focused environment

Paddy Power Betfair, formed by the 2016 merger of two leading online betting operators, needed a modern, highly scalable infrastructure to support massive transaction volumes, continuous development and 24/7 customer demand. Facing bottlenecks in provisioning and operations, the company set out to build the i2 private cloud — an IaaS, DevOps‑focused, software‑defined platform that required a 100Gbps‑capable, low‑latency network that could integrate with Nuage SDN, avoid vendor lock‑in and provide seamless fallback for resilience.

Paddy Power Betfair selected Arista’s EOS, MLAG, CloudVision and ZTP with a leaf‑spine design (7500 spine, 7050X and 7280 leafs) to deliver automation, OpenStack API provisioning and tight Nuage integration. The deployment cut VM provisioning from days to minutes, enabled 2,000 VMs to be brought online in 24 hours, moved the team from processing 500 weekly change requests to that volume per day, improved latency and reliability, and provided headroom to scale to 100Gbps without adding headcount.
