A Arista Networks Case Study
Medical Mutual of Ohio, the state's oldest and largest health insurer serving 1.6 million members, faced a critical data center bottleneck: its 2005 Cisco Catalyst 6500 deployment had run out of 10GbE ports, default-gateway port-channeling created processing delays, and risky, disruptive OS upgrades left the team unable to modernize the network.
Medical Mutual replaced the legacy gear with Arista switches (7048, 7050, 7150) and EOS, leveraging a Linux core, MLAG, SFlow and high‑speed port‑channels with 40GbE gateways running OSPF. The rollout (initially 16, later 20 switches) cut batch processing time roughly in half (from 500ms to 280ms), enabled seamless code upgrades with zero outages to date, lowered costs and unlocked scalable data center growth with improved support.
