HEAnet, Ireland’s National Education & Research Network, needed a cost-effective way to add high-bandwidth capacity and support growing demand for co-location, mirroring, streaming, and virtualization services. To replace increasingly complex and expensive multi-Gigabit aggregation, HEAnet evaluated 10GbE switching options from Arista Networks and looked for a compact, affordable 1U switch that could deliver hot-standby capability and high aggregate upstream bandwidth.

Arista Networks implemented 24-port Arista 7124S 10GbE switches, a non-blocking solution with wire-speed performance on all ports and flexible 1GbE/10GbE connectivity. The result was improved performance and availability for HEAnet’s mirror and backbone traffic, with the added benefit of lower cost, space, and power requirements; HEAnet described the switch as a “game changer” for high-performance service delivery.
