A Arista Networks Case Study
FernUniversität in Hagen, Germany’s state‑maintained distance‑learning university with over 70,000 students, faced an aging campus network with limited bandwidth, recurrent stability issues, and little room for scalable growth. The IT team needed higher performance, greater reliability and built‑in automation to support increasing video and application traffic and to simplify future expansion.
The university deployed an Arista leaf‑and‑spine architecture (100G spine, 10G interlinks) using Arista 7000‑series switches, EOS with CloudVision and Ansible integration, EVPN/VXLAN and MLAG for resilient, scalable routing and segmentation. The migration, driven by automation, delivered streamlined management, flexible VXLAN segmentation, lower energy use and has provided 100% availability since deployment, prompting further Arista rollouts for the data centre and WLAN.
