A Arista Networks Case Study
Asteroid, founded by industry veterans, set out to reinvent Internet Exchange Point (IXP) services by giving customers greater self-service control, automated provisioning and detailed telemetry while aggressively reducing costs. The team’s challenge was to replace slow, legacy provisioning processes and rigid hardware with a flexible, software-driven platform that could deliver low-cost, local interconnection without sacrificing performance or reliability.
Asteroid built a new software stack running on Arista 7280R switches and Arista EOS to enable automation, rapid provisioning and extensive self-service features. The result is a turnkey IXP offering—launched in Amsterdam and expanded to other sites such as MEX-IX—that delivers one of the lowest price-per-bandwidth services in key locations, fast on-demand provisioning, scalable 10–100Gb ports with seamless bonding, rich telemetry, and a long-term roadmap that avoids vendor lock-in.
