A Arista Networks Case Study
AIS (American Internet Services) is a leading IT infrastructure provider offering colocation and cloud services across seven enterprise-class facilities in San Diego, Los Angeles and Phoenix. In 2011 the company saw customers shifting from owning hardware to using cloud resources, so in 2012 AIS launched a VMware-based cloud (BusinessCloud1). Their biggest technical challenges were achieving the compute-to-storage speed needed and reducing network-management complexity, which required moving to 10GbE at much higher port density.
AIS selected Arista Networks switches, initially deploying 7050S series switches in an MLAG configuration and later adding more 7050S and 7048T units, benefiting from out-of-band remote management and strong pre-sales engineering support. The new design simplified dual 10GbE host and storage configurations, delivered noticeably higher I/O performance than many customers’ on-premises setups, and earned positive feedback from customers while enabling AIS to expand its cloud offering.
