How the State of California rapidly got thousands of residents prepared for disasters

Cal OES, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services for the State of California, needed a way to rapidly train residents on disaster preparedness, especially vulnerable communities with limited internet access or time for traditional courses. To reach these audiences at scale, Cal OES turned to Arist and its text message course platform.

Arist helped Cal OES launch a disaster preparedness course in nearly a dozen languages within just a few days, delivered through SMS and WhatsApp. The program reached nearly 15,000 Californians, is expected to reach 100,000 learners, and achieved an 85% completion rate, 92% satisfaction rate, and 93% of completers saying they felt more prepared.
