Penn State University Press adds 379 reviewers with Aries Systems

Penn State University Press faced a significant challenge in identifying suitable peer reviewers for its journals. The manual process was burdensome for editorial teams, leading to administrative delays, stale candidate pools, and difficulty in securing qualified and available reviewers. To address this, they participated in a trial of Aries Systems' Find Reviewers using Scopus tool.

Aries Systems implemented its solution, which integrated directly with the press's Editorial Manager system to automate the reviewer search. The tool used the Scopus database to expand their network of potential reviewers and streamline the invitation process with automatic conflict-of-interest checks and proxy registration. The result was a dramatic improvement in workflow efficiency described as a "game changer," leading to a marked decrease in reviewer decline rates and a significant increase in completed reviews, prompting a formal adoption across over 60 journals.
