ORCID, working with vendor Aries Systems and its Editorial Manager platform, needed a simpler way for reviewers and authors to manage access across multiple journal sites. In the case study, reviewer Andrew Erickson described the challenge of juggling seven separate Editorial Manager logins and repeatedly recovering usernames and passwords just to access journals and complete tasks.

Aries Systems solved this by integrating ORCID iDs into Editorial Manager as a single-sign-on option, allowing users to sign in across configured journal sites with one set of credentials after a one-time profile association. The result was a much faster, easier login process for reviewers like Erickson, who said the change eliminated password hassles and saved significant time and effort. Aries Systems also noted that 52 publishers had activated ORCID SSO across around 3,000 journals.
