Case Study: American Roentgen Ray Society Achieves Faster Journal Production with Aries Systems Preprint Manager

A Aries Systems Case Study

Preview of the American Roentgen Ray Society Case Study

Deploying a System for Web-Based Journal Production Tracking

American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), the oldest radiology society in the United States, needed a better way to manage the complex production workflow for its flagship journal, the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR). With about 700 manuscripts a year, a 13-person editorial and production team, and a growing need for faster decisions and tighter control, ARRS looked for a web-based system that would fit its highly specialized publishing process. Aries Systems provided the solution through Editorial Manager and the companion Preprint Manager product.

Aries Systems implemented Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager to handle online submission, peer review, copyediting, proofing, composition, and issue management. The system improved PDF delivery, gave the team real-time visibility into production status, and enabled customizable workflows and reporting. As a result, AJR reduced manuscript time to decision to 30–36 days on average, improved efficiency across the production process, and was able to send the last few issues to the printer a few days early.
