Niche Biomedical launches ExaStim with Areteworks’ 16-channel spinal UX

Areteworks partnered with Niche Biomedical to design the user experience for their ExaStim neuromodulation system. The core challenge was creating a single interface for two distinct audiences: clinicians who needed advanced, fast controls for clinical settings, and patients or caregivers who required a simple, approachable system for safe use at home without medical training. The design had to serve both users effectively without making the product feel like two separate devices.

The solution from Areteworks involved mapping the therapy workflow and building interactive prototypes to validate the design with stakeholders. They conducted formative usability sessions to identify and correct errors early. The final design featured a clinical interface centered on an electrode map and a simplified home version with clear guidance. Areteworks delivered the final UI as ready-to-integrate C code, resulting in a cohesive interface system trusted by both clinicians and patients in two very different environments.
