The National Concert Hall ShadowProtect and OneXafe improve business continuity and increase efficiency at NCH

The National Concert Hall in Dublin, Ireland — a busy national cultural institution hosting over 1,000 events and 300,000 ticket-holders annually — needed a reliable, non-disruptive backup strategy to protect more than seven terabytes of production data across 20 virtual machines and a physical server. With critical ticketing, Exchange, SQL and media servers requiring backups from once a day up to twice an hour, the NCH found its four Synology NAS units inefficient and unable to scale with growing data and protection demands.

Working with MSP Paradyn, NCH consolidated storage to Arcserve OneXafe on a 10GbE network and deployed Arcserve ShadowProtect for frequent, image-based backups (as often as every 30 minutes) while using Veeam during quiet periods for VMware-level restores. The OneXafe’s compression, scalability and immutable continuous snapshots improved restore assurance; ShadowProtect eliminated production lag during backups. The result: reliable, non-disruptive backups, higher operational efficiency, lower energy use and storage footprint, and plans to add a second OneXafe for off-site replication.
