A Arcserve Case Study
Thai Airways’ Technical Department (Thai Technical), which maintains the airline’s 95-aircraft fleet, faced a regulatory and operational challenge: it must keep immaculate, constantly available aircraft maintenance records to meet strict aviation and ISO standards and avoid costly delays. The department’s previous Windows Backup solution lacked the functionality and speed needed to rapidly recover from server failures, malware or other incidents that could interrupt maintenance schedules and threaten safety and reputation.
To address this, Thai Technical deployed an Arcserve UDP 8400 appliance alongside Arcserve Backup to protect more than 300 Windows servers and virtual machines across SAN and DAS storage. The solution provides fast 60-day recovery and bare-metal restores, plus compression/deduplication to lower storage and energy costs and tape backups with an air gap to guard against ransomware. As a result, backups are faster and easier to manage, resources are freed up, scalability is improved, and the department retains continuous access to the critical data needed to keep aircraft operational and passengers safe.
