San Mateo Credit Union Reduces Backup Footprint for 74 Machines by 82 Percent with Arcserve’s Unified Data Protection (UDP) Appliance

San Mateo Credit Union (SMCU), a member-owned financial cooperative founded in 1952 with more than $840M in assets and ~81,000 members, relied on a legacy backup vendor but ran into pricing and procurement issues while needing a reliable, cost-effective backup and recovery solution for 74 machines (virtual and physical) that host core banking and other critical services.

SMCU deployed the Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP) Series 7300 appliance after a trial and quick install; using global source-side deduplication it cut its backup footprint by roughly 82–83% (shrinking stored data from about 30 TB to ~5 TB), successfully backs up all 74 machines, and has validated fast bare-metal and VM restores—delivering space and cost savings plus stronger recovery confidence.
