Proper Music Group is the UK’s largest independent distributor of physical music, supplying labels, retailers and digital platforms and shipping around seven million discs a year. Rapid growth left its IT behind: a tape-based backup system that had to scale from about 1 TB to 20 TB could not meet recovery needs, and consultants estimated a full restore after a disaster could take up to two weeks.

Working with partner MTech, Proper Music deployed Arcserve ShadowProtect SPX to image and continuously protect seven critical servers (ERP “Basil”, Sage 200, file/print and customer data). When an attack occurred the team restored systems in under 12 hours with minimal business interruption, and the company is now planning further Arcserve solutions to strengthen resilience.
