A Arcserve Case Study
Outwood Grange Academies Trust is an education charity that runs 32 academies serving about 25,000 students. As the trust grew it relied more heavily on IT for payroll, registers and medical records, but backups were inconsistent across sites—tape and hard‑drive systems produced long backup windows, unreliable restores and limited visibility—putting student data and the trust’s reputation at risk.
The trust deployed Arcserve UDP across 32 schools and a Leeds datacentre to protect 569 servers (10% physical, 90% virtual), covering more than 2 PB of recoverable data reduced to 270 TB via deduplication and compression. Nightly backups are replicated to the datacentre, allowing servers to be spun up in minutes and a whole school restored within 48 hours; the solution cut storage growth, improved restore success to ~99%, freed IT resources, and earned the trust a five‑year renewal.
