Outwood Grange Academies Trust ensures teaching continuity with Arcserve UDP

Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT) is a multi‑academy trust of 19 schools in Northern England serving about 10,000 students. Faced with a patchwork of backup tools, mixed storage media and no central reporting — and after a near‑miss with a school email server — OGAT needed a standardised, centrally monitorable backup solution to protect payroll, student records and daily teaching operations.

OGAT deployed Arcserve UDP across 14 academies to protect 195 servers and roughly 90TB of raw data (reduced to ~28TB via deduplication), with nightly local backups automatically replicated to a central datacentre. The rollout cut backup windows from ~48 hours to about 1 hour, lowered storage use and failure rates, enabled fast restores (typical server ~20 minutes, full school ~48 hours), delivered significant cost savings versus competitors, and will be extended to the remaining schools.
