A Arcserve Case Study
Test Valley Borough Council, a 500-employee local authority in Hampshire, England, provides a wide range of services to residents and businesses and shares IT services with Winchester City Council. The partnership faced a fragmented backup environment—tape units, disparate software and knowledge silos—that increased complexity, risk and recovery times and could not meet the councils’ four-hour full-core recovery target. The council needed a single, scalable backup and disaster-recovery solution that would reduce costs and support future partnership growth.
In August 2012 Test Valley implemented arcserve D2D, arcserve Backup and arcserve Replication to centralise recovery management. The solution now protects more than 35 TB across 200 servers (around 80% virtualised), enables bare-metal restores to speed recovery, met the four-hour SLA in a recent incident, and helped reduce costs and operational risk—building on more than £300,000 in savings from earlier system consolidation while improving service delivery.
