Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KUAS), a Finnish university with about 230 staff and 2,000 students, operates two data centres — one largely run by students. As its virtualised environment grew to roughly 100 virtual servers and 3 TB of critical data, existing ad‑hoc, tape‑based backups left the university exposed to data loss, downtime and disruption to student projects and faculty work.

KUAS deployed Arcserve Backup and Arcserve D2D with local partner Citius.net, moving to automated disk‑to‑disk incremental backups and unified recovery management. The solution protects the virtual and physical environment, enables scheduled frequent backups and minutes‑level restores, simplifies administration, safeguards projects and gives students practical experience in recovery management.
