A Arcserve Case Study
Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS), Paraguay’s Social Security Institute with over 16,000 employees and more than 100 assistance centers, needed a fast, robust, easy-to-implement backup solution with minimal service impact. Its legacy, manual backup process was slow and error-prone—backup windows of 24–26 hours and restores that could take 5–6 hours—leading to data loss after disk-array failures and unacceptable downtime.
Between September and December 2016 IPS implemented Arcserve UDP, installing agents on physical servers, integrating hypervisors and using Arcserve UDP Premium Plus to protect ~20 critical applications across ~50 devices, with an offsite RPS for high availability. The deployment cut backup windows to about 1 hour, sped recovery, reduced storage and staffing costs, lowered downtime and risk, and helped IPS meet its SLAs.
