Granta Design Ltd, a 150‑employee leader in materials information technology spun out of the University of Cambridge, provides software and databases that support engineering and academic customers. With 154 TB of critical IP and product data, the company’s tape-based backup was time-consuming, costly, and inflexible, risking slow recoveries and gaps in service.

Granta deployed Arcserve UDP to deduplicate and compress 154 TB to 13.5 TB, store backups on an offsite server and replicate to cloud storage; incremental backups now take about nine minutes and restores as little as 30 minutes. The solution cut management overhead to a single administrator, reduced costs and business risk, and gave users fast, reliable recovery and greater confidence in data protection.
