Bundesagentur für Arbeit optimises weekly backup of 200-plus terabytes of data with Arcserve Backup

Bundesagentur für Arbeit (BA), Germany’s public employment agency, operates a vast IT estate — roughly 1,900 sites, 170,000 workstations and 12,400 servers supporting services for millions of citizens. BA IT needed to replace a manual, tape-based backup process and implement automated, centralised backup and disaster-recovery across more than 1,500 decentralized branches, protecting about 9,800 Windows servers and over 200 TB of weekly data.

BA deployed Arcserve D2D and Arcserve RHA (with a central Virtual Tape Library), enabling block-level incremental (“incremental forever”) backups, efficient replication and centralised recovery. The solution eliminated manual tape handling, shortened backup windows, lowered costs and complexity, automated protection for thousands of servers and 1,300+ smaller sites, and delivered centrally managed disaster-recovery and failover capabilities — all run by a lean BA IT team.
