Arcserve Safeguards Wildlife Welfare for Taronga Conservation Society Australia

Taronga Conservation Society Australia (TCSA) is a not-for-profit that operates Taronga Zoo and Taronga Western Plains Zoo, caring for 4,000 animals and serving about 1.5 million visitors a year. With growing data volumes and critical IT dependencies for animal husbandry, research and admissions, its tape‑based backup process became too slow and intrusive, creating an unacceptable backup window and multi-day restores that threatened operations and animal welfare.

TCSA implemented Arcserve Backup and Arcserve D2D—disk-based snapshots with tape archiving and offsite replication over a 10 GB link—to protect email, video, research and transaction data. The new solution cut backup time roughly in half while protecting four times the data, turned restores from days into minutes or hours, reduced failures and labor for IT staff, and improved business continuity to safeguard animals, visitors and revenue.
