Arcserve Reduces Backup Windows and Streamlines Data Retrieval for First Securities

First Securities is a Taiwan-based, full-service brokerage and a subsidiary of First Financial Holding that serves retail customers through 22 branches and online channels. As the business grew, its aging backup system became insufficient: full backups took more than 24 hours, restores could take hours, and the firm needed real-time replication to a Taichung disaster-recovery site to avoid unacceptable data and service loss.

First Securities replaced its Symantec solution with Arcserve UDP Premium Plus, using image-based incremental backups, global deduplication and real-time replication; the project was completed in three months. The new solution cut daily backup windows from over 24 hours to under one hour, reduced data retrieval to under 15 minutes, provides instantaneous replication to the DR site, and consolidated management so a single administrator now maintains backups.
