Cymax, a leading Australian managed IT services and cloud provider with 130+ service centres, was hampered by a basic, non–cloud-optimized backup solution that lacked deduplication. Rapid data growth forced continual hardware purchases (estimated 60% higher costs year over year and a near-doubling of backup footprint every 10 months) and cost the team up to 20 hours in engineering time in some months to fix intermittent backup issues.

Cymax deployed Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP) Premium & Premium Plus across Exchange, SQL, Greentree JADE, file and terminal servers. Arcserve’s global deduplication cut the backup footprint from 49 TB to 2.73 TB (≈95%), delivered an estimated 5x hardware cost saving, extended retention (from 14+ days to over a month with plans for 60 days) and reduced verification/engineering time by about 80%. The solution also improved reliability and added RPS replication for cloud-based DR.
