A Arcserve Case Study
Action Cancer, a Northern Ireland charity delivering free digital breast screening, health promotion and therapeutic services, takes about 10,000 tomosynthesis scans a year (each up to 400 image slices) that must be retained for at least 10 years. Faced with growing data volumes and threats from accidental loss, corruption, hardware failure and ransomware — all of which could delay diagnoses or require repeat x‑rays — the organisation needed a secure, scalable storage solution to protect patient images and outcomes.
Working with partner Leaf IT, Action Cancer deployed two Arcserve OneXafe 4412 appliances (storing ~40 TB) with replication between server rooms, immutable snapshots and in‑line deduplication/compression; a third appliance offsite is planned. The solution enables rapid rollback and recovery in minutes, reduces the risk of data loss from cyberattacks or failures, scales with growing scan volumes and is easy to manage — giving staff confidence that critical patient x‑rays and diagnoses are protected.
