Blackmagic Design needed a way to make film digitization practical for a wider audience while also ensuring that scanned footage could be safely stored, searched, and reused over time. Working with Archiware P5, the company addressed the challenge of preserving large film collections and making them easier to browse and manage once digitized.

Archiware P5 Archive was used to provide flexible archiving across disk, tape, cloud, and tape libraries, with proxy clips for preview, extendable metadata fields, combined search, and LTFS restore for portability. The solution helped create a searchable archive for thousands of clips and added long-term protection through tape cloning and LTO-based storage, which the case study highlights as a low-cost medium with a certified lifespan of 30 years.
