Case Study: the Obama Administration preserves White House social media history with ArchiveSocial

A ArchiveSocial Case Study

Obama Administration archives 10M+ social media records in under 8 weeks with ArchiveSocial

The Obama Administration, known as the first "social media president," faced the significant challenge of archiving over 150 official social media profiles to comply with the Presidential Records Act. This required preserving a vast volume of digital communications across more than a dozen platforms for transfer to the National Archives. To meet this requirement, they turned to the vendor ArchiveSocial, now CivicPlus, and its Social Media Archiving product.

CivicPlus implemented its Social Media Archiving platform to automatically capture high-fidelity data from over 100 accounts across nine platforms. The solution processed more than 10 million records and transferred over four terabytes of data to the National Archives in less than eight weeks. This resulted in the creation of a public-facing, searchable archive of over 250,000 posts, ensuring the records were preserved with full context and made transparently accessible to the public.
