Case Study: TECNOSITAF achieves integrated Frejus Tunnel maintenance and preventive operations with ARCHIBUS

A ARCHIBUS Case Study

Preview of the Tecnositaf Case Study

World’s Ninth Longest Road Tunnel Relies on ARCHIBUS to Manage Complex Trans-Alpine Operations

Frejus Tunnel, the ninth longest road tunnel and a key trans‑Alpine link between France and Italy, is maintained by the Groupement d’Exploitation du Frejus (GEF) with day‑to‑day operations handled by concessionaire TECNOSITAF. By 2014 the tunnel’s complex systems—including ventilation, signage, 241 cameras, fire detection and thermal gates—were managed with fragmented tools: outdated CAD drawings, no centralized maintenance history, and work orders tracked in Excel, creating inefficiencies and limited preventive capabilities.

TECNOSITAF implemented ARCHIBUS (Building Operations Management, On Demand Work, Preventive Maintenance and related apps), updated CAD and asset records for over 4,300 pieces of equipment, and centralized workflows for 60 staff across five teams. The platform integrated asset history with work orders, enabled one‑click ticketing and improved tracking, added equipment monitoring and energy tracking, and shifted maintenance from reactive repairs toward preventive maintenance—with plans to roll the approach out to the emergency tunnel.
