Strategic Master Planning Saves Millions for Johnson County, Kansas

Johnson County, Kansas’ Facilities Management Department—responsible for over 250 buildings and more than 2 million square feet—needed a Strategic Facilities Master Plan to guide acquisition, development and operational decisions amid population growth and scattered operations. The challenge was to create a living document that supported business processes, accurately forecasted space needs, and reduced inefficient leases and redundant projects.

Working with Applied Data Systems, the County deployed ARCHIBUS Strategic Master Planning, conducted extensive stakeholder workshops and departmental analyses, and used data imports to build multi‑period space budgets updated annually. The outcome was proactive, policy‑driven facility planning, consolidation of operations, reduced energy/space/staff costs, elimination of unnecessary projects, and a projected $44 million in lease savings over 15 years.
