National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Gets Down-to-Earth Asset Management Results with ARCHIBUS

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which operates three regional centers totaling 17 buildings (2.25 million sq. ft.), 5,000 occupants and over 100,000 furniture assets, faced fragmented systems and inconsistent space and asset standards. CAD plans weren’t maintained across regions, occupancy and utilization reporting was unreliable, and multiple legacy CMMS platforms plus Excel-based telecom and cost tracking prevented timely, consistent workflows and reporting.

NOAA implemented a multiyear ARCHIBUS enterprise solution—web and mobile apps for space, building operations, telecommunications, preventive maintenance and cost administration—consolidating data from legacy systems, tagging and linking 3,000 assets to PM schedules, and establishing three regional help desks. The rollout delivered unified workflows, system-wide centralized reporting (FRPP-compliant), automated cost and lease controls, and consistent asset standards, with plans to add permanent bar-coding/QR tags and tablet-based space surveys.
