Calgary Health Region: Curing Facilities Data Deficiency

Calgary Health Region, which manages more than 100 buildings and over 8 million sq ft across a newly expanded 15,000 sq mi service area, faced a major facilities data challenge after provincial regionalization and a mandate to adopt CAFM. Facility drawings and records were scattered across vellum, spreadsheets, standalone CAD files or not documented at all, leaving space, maintenance and risk information inconsistent or missing.

CHR partnered with BRG to roll out ARCHIBUS (Space, Real Property & Lease, Building Operations, Furniture & Equipment, Work Wizard and the AutoCAD Overlay), customizing applications to integrate CAD and track asbestos and other asset data. The centralized repository now enables cross‑site reporting, faster identification and consolidation of vacant/underused space, improved maintenance and risk management, and on‑demand CAD/PDF delivery — with plans for interactive maps, PDAs and further system integrations.
