A ARCHIBUS Case Study
The Calgary Board of Education oversees 225 schools, about 15 million square feet and more than 107,000 students on a $1 billion annual operating budget, and needed to optimize facilities management, consolidate hundreds of separate IT systems and eliminate paper-driven processes that delayed work orders for weeks. Their challenge was to build a scalable, data-driven enterprise system to improve responsiveness, space management, safety and cross-departmental data sharing.
Since 2006 CBE implemented ARCHIBUS (Web Central, Service Desk, Energy Management and other modules), standardizing CAD, cataloguing hazardous materials, deploying online space surveys, bar-coding assets and integrating with city and IT systems. The result: work order turnaround fell by about 80% (from up to 3.5 weeks to three days and moving toward instant mobile dispatch), more accurate space and asset data, automated reporting, better energy and reservation management, and stronger integration with other enterprise and public-safety systems.
